Members of Chattooga County Camp 507 spent Thursday, March 26th, 2009 in Atlanta touring the state Capitol, meeting Governor Sonny Perdue, and talking with Senator Jeff Mullis and Representative Barbara Massey Reece. New members Joe Beam and James D. Willmon were presented their membership plaques in the John B. Gordon Room. A tour of the states Confederate battle flag collection was given to the camp including a special viewing of the flag of the 9th Georgia infantry whose members included companies from Walker and Chattooga counties and whose flag the Chattooga camp flag is patterned after. Also camp members saw the General John B. Gordon statue on the Capitol grounds.
Later, a headstone was erected for Pvt. John Kyle Willingham who is buried in the Bethsaida Baptist Church cemetery in Fulton County. Descendents of Pvt. Willingham present were Jamie Cavin, of Camp 507, Matthew Willingham, and R. Dale Willingham also of Camp 507.
