Well, here we are with another month gone and it’s meeting time again. Our regular monthly meeting will be held
on Thursday, Sept. 25th at the Trion Community Center.
The 145th Anniversary of the Battle of Chickamauga was great. I hope everybody got to attend at least one day.
We saw thousands of people from all over the U.S. and some Europeans, too. Everybody that I saw seemed to
enjoy themselves. Visiting the camps was an interesting experience. It seems the Federal camp may have had some
Confederate spies in it Friday night, though. There ARE pictures.
Sum-Nelly is Saturday, October 4th. We have a space reserved for the camp and will be selling battle flags, real
Georgia flags, prints, books and bumper stickers.. Also, hopefully Tim Cooper will be able to make some Brunswick
Stew to sell. Any compatriots who can are asked to come and take part in this event.
As I sit down to write this, I recieved an e-mail from division webmaster Chip Andrews that our website is now added
to the Georgia Division webpage.
We’re coming up on the holiday season and with it, our opportunities for more positive publicity in the community.
We have in the past given money to the ‘Santas in Uniform’ charity sponsored by the Summerville P.D. for
disadvantaged children and I personally feel that with the economic situation what it is, we should consider doing
this again.
Also we have the opportunity to take part in the ‘Christmas in the Park’ at Dowdy Park in Summerville. I have asked
for a more accessible and central location this year. In return, the city manager has asked that we perform a firing
drill at some point. Also that will require that we be there both Friday AND Saturday nights. All in favor say ‘aye’
We will have the opportunity to be in the Christmas parade in Summerville, this year without charge. We may want
to ask either the Rome or Chickamauga camp to bring their float as an entry this year (provided they have one) and
either ride on it or march in front of/around it. This is something we need to discuss at the next meeting so I can
contact whichever camp we select before they make other plans.
